Brazil’s Grain Output Expected to Jump 22 Percent in 2017
Figures released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) reflect that Brazil’s grain output is expected to show a significant increase of 21.8 percent this year.
Of a total volume of 224.3 million tons of grains, vegetables, and oilseeds, 93 percent are forecast to be soybeans, corn, and rice.
Brazil’s total soybean harvest is expected to come in at 108.4 million tons – a year-on-year increase of 13.2 percent, while total soybean acreage for this year is expected to increase by 2.1 percent.
Meanwhile, Brazil’s corn production is expected to see a surprising 39.6 percent growth over last year, with 88.4 million tons being harvested across the country’s two harvests – from acreage that is 11.1 percent higher than last year.
Findings from IBGE also show that cotton, castor beans, and onions are expected to see increases in output, while barley, wheat, sugarcane, and manioc are expected to see declines.
