CHS Acquires Second Ethanol Fuel Plant
CHS, one of North America’s leading farmer-owned grains and food co-operatives, has announced it has acquired the Patriot Renewable Fuels ethanol plant in Annawan, Illinois from Patriot Holdings, LLC.
CHS is pursuing ownership of ethanol fuel assets in strategic geographies that will add value throughout the entire supply chain across its ag and energy businesses for its owners, and this is the second ethanol fuel plant acquisition for the co-op after its purchase of the former Illinois River Energy plant in Rochelle, Illinois in June 2014.
CHS is already the marketer for the plant’s distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) and ethanol products, and Gene Griffith, Patriot Holdings, LLC Chairman states, "CHS is the right fit to take this business to the next level.”
The facility, which produces 125 million gallons of ethanol per year, will be rebranded as CHS and its future growth under CHS ownership should prove a boon to grain producers in the region.
